Isn’t most audio
for the web just awful? OK, it's better than a few years
ago but come on!
Either so mushy that it spoils the music or with files that
intrude or take ages to download. Very 2002.
I reckon It’s all about having the right amount of sound
delivered in the right way. Too much and people just feel
assaulted and go elsewhere, not enough and it all seems a
bit low budget and unprofessional.
Optimising audio for different platforms has always been a
part of my work. A central plank of my BBC training was
that it was my job to create audio to sound great on all
equipment, from cheap transistors to expensive Hi-Fi. This
skill transfers directly to getting the best from tiny PC
speakers without messing things up for people who link
their computer into high quality sound systems. Let their
equipment be the limiting factor, not our audio!
